WATERLOO - Richard "Dick" DeCann, 92, passed away peacefully Thursday (March 21, 2024) at Clifton Springs Hospital, after a long fulfilling life. The funeral service will be 11 AM Wednesday (April 3) at Coe Genung Funeral Home, Waterloo, NY. Rev. Floyd Marsh, pastor of Harvest Field Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Waterloo, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Harvest Field Baptist Church, P.O. Box 176, Fayette, NY, 13065. Dick was born March 26, 1931 in Newark, NY, the son of Emor, Sr. and Lena Yaskow DeCann. He graduated from Phelps High School in 1951, and was known for his outstanding athleticism. Dick went on to work for MacDougal's Garage in Newark until 1953, then worked for Sylvania until the Seneca Falls plant closed. Dick, then worked for Haltz Manufacturing until the company closed. He retired from Goulds Pumps after ten years of employment. Dick greatly enjoyed talking about memories of his Indian and Harley motorcycles. He loved the outdoors and took great pride in the park-like setting of his 70+ year old home in Waterloo. Dick was also a gentleman of great faith, and would always end a conversation with, "God Bless You." Dick was predeceased by his loving wife, Carol Deal DeCann, in 2006; his parents; and brother Emor DeCann, Jr. He is survived by his sister, Merna (Peter) Wjotas; several nieces and nephews who adored him; and very special friend, Loretta LeClair, and her family.
